    The cores have already melted through the reactor vessel, as well as through containment.

    @growing24marijuana backups are not safe from failing. In Forsmark there haven’t been an earthquake or a tsunami. In Forsmark all backup generators failed. 3 minutes before meltdown they managed to start one backup generator. Until today nobody knows why the backup system has failed and why one generator finally started. By now Forsmark is run on luck and hope. Thats the sad truth.

    @MetallicBill I mean ABOARD ships off the coast, with Japan hardware for safe recycling for polluted water while stationed off the coast. Seems a good plan, but he says Japan refused this offer Russia made

    @Mr2ndAmendment There was a retraction for saying too large a figure, I hope you remember that, so they reeled it back and then claimed there was not enough information gathered to make a public statement. Friend BBB in Japan told me Russians wanted recycliing water about ships off the coast, and Japan refused, and if I got his English correct, that it could be related to opposing nations security issues, they don’t want to divulge things that could be military secrets, or used against? not sure

    @Mr2ndAmendment My friend BBB in Japan still, was the first guy I chatted with due to interest in Lynyrd Skynyrd. He would not like moving because of this, and most were displaced or killed. Missing, hoped to be found or presumed dead. There’s really not much you can do about massive natural disasters, no amount of planning can help there, but sure things can be done better, but not perfect, no foresight is Absolute

    I’ve noticed there’s really two stances people take. They either think the situation was insane and think people should get off their back about it, or there’s the group that think even with the situation, more could have been done. I’m with that group. There’s no reason why the diesel engine that operated the pump had to be placed in an easily-flooded area. There’s no excuse for the authorities hiding facts and downplaying the situation.

    @MetallicBill

    My biggest problem with this whole situation is that the authorities haven’t been completely open and honest with the public, and they’ve been downplaying the severity of the situation. When the rest of the world’s nuclear experts and agencies suggested expanding the evacuation zone in the early days of this disaster, they ignored it and kept it only at 12km. Now that they’ve finally swallowed their pride and extended the zones, many people have been exposed to radiation.

    I have seen the same documentation, I know all three failsafes failed but there still is a degree of human accountability. They got hit with a crazy situation; a huge earthquake and an even worse tsunami. Even with that said, I think they shouldn’t have built a plant there in the first place. They should have been more open about the truth of the disaster. It was a “level 7″ long ago, they should have just come out and said it instead of insist everything was OK.
